Zhen Dong is a Research Assistant Professor at the Westlake Laboratory of Life Sciences and Biomedicine. He obtained his PhD from the University of Otago, New Zealand, in December 2020. From 2021 to 2023, he conducted postdoctoral research in Guomics at Westlake University, focusing on the development and application of expansion-based spatial proteomics.
Over the past five years, Zhen has received several grants and awards, including the International Postdoctoral Exchange Fellowship (Introduction Program), the Westlake Laboratory “Frontier Scholar”, the Special Postdoctoral Research Grant, the Rising Star Project from the National Key Laboratory of Medical Proteomics, and the π-HuB Rising Star Award. He has also contributed to multiple national key projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
Zhen has published 12 papers as first author (including co-first) or corresponding author (including co-corresponding) in journals such as Nature Communications, Nature Protocols, Hepatology, Trends in Biochemical Sciences, and Cell Discovery. He co-developed the first-generation expansion spatial proteomics technology, ProteomEx, and led the development of its second-generation method, FAXP, which were featured by Nature in its 2025 “Technology Features” series as major advances in spatial proteomics and recognized by Trends in Biochemical Sciences as the “Technology of the Month.” More information can be found at guomics.com/faxp.
